Rainy weekend at the summerhouse

Foggy morning

On the first full weekend of July we took a trip to visit my mother at the summerhouse. If it had not been for the temperatures, it would have been hard to know that it was summer. It was one of the wettest weekends I can remember, and the puddles were deeper than the wellies in some parts. And the fog was very thick for a big part of the weekend. But we had a nice time seeing family and enjoying some nice food.

A nice boat in to visit the bay

We did go out in between the worst showers and got our dose of fresh sea air. We got to jump in puddles, find little crabs, throw pebbles into the sea and pick and eat black and red currants and wild blueberries. And of course, very tasty local strawberries.

Villa Rosehagen

On our way home we stopped in a small town of Jørpeland for a nice meal in a lovely restaurant called Villa Rosehagen. It is located in an old villa overlooking the sea and as its name means Villa rose garden in English it implies that it has a nice rose garden. The smell of the roses is wonderful and the house is very charming. It is like a nice summer ritual to visit both the town and the restaurant.

Inside the resturant

I had a lovely fish and shellfish soup and for dessert I went for a homemade carrot cake and my other half decided to try the cloudberry cheesecake, none of them disappointed. Ickle Pickle got her choice of pancake for dinner and ice cream for dessert, but she also helped herself to my food, as she tends to do.

This weekend we don’t have too many plans, but one never knows what happens. What are your plans?

  1. Rainy at a cottage visit can make for a cozy indoor weekend. Glad you got outside. The desserts on the way home look yummy. No wonder Ickle Pickle could not resist. This weekend we are prepping for house guests from NZ. Busy but exciting. Have a good weekend Maja. Allan
