Coaster from the Irishman
I’ve never before celebrated St. Patrick’s Day, but this year I was invited by some irish colleagues to go out to have a Guinness at the local Irish pub called the Irishman. There was a lot of people, live irish music, beer, stew (I did not try this as I had already had dinner) and a very good mood. People where wearing green, Guinness hats and a lot of Shamrocks. They even made Shamrocks in our beers 🙂 As we were all going to work today we did not celebrate too much, but it was very much fun to go there and feel the atmosphere and look at all the funny things people got dressed up in. The people I went out with made for excellent company and I was very thankful today that we were responsible enough to get home at a respectable hour. I might have to start celebrating this day from now on as all excuses to go out and have a nice time with good people should be used!

The weather has not been to good lately. There has been a lot of rain, so this weekend has not been spent much outside. But I helped a friend redecorate and afterwards we had a pre-redecorating party. And on sunday we had a family dinner at my aunt’s place with two of my cousins and their family.
First off, for those of you who has been concerned, if you exist, I’ll be happy to announce that I found my cards. They where at work. My financial order is restored 🙂 I have foud that in todays society it is very impractical not to have functioning credit and debit cards!
Springtime has really been here this week. The sun had been out and the wind has not been bad at all! The mornings are brighter and the evenings are the same. With this my energy level has been up and my mood has been very good. I’ve been out walking around outside after work to be sure I got to enjoy the good weather before it disappears.
Out for a walk in the sunshine 🙂
The picture above is taken in what we call the colour street, beacause all the buildings has got different and bright colours. There are some nice cafees and pubs and a few cute little boutiques. I also walked by the sea but by that time the battery on my phone was dead, so I could not take any pretty pictures. I’m counting on many more days like this so I’ll get them next time.
This weekend got off to the worst start. On friday it was raining, a lot, I mean they had even sent out a flood warning. So you can probably imagine that this was not the best morning to not find your umbrella. When I got to work I was soaked. Standing there dripping I could not find my access card and figured I had left it at home. The day at work went quite ok, but I guess I was very ready to go home at the end of the day because I left my bag there. As I got home and tried to find my access card I realized it was probably in my bag with my Visa card, at work…. To say I was in the best of moods when I was getting ready to go out for a drink with colleagues would be a lie. The fact that I decided to cut my fringe with bad scissors dd not do much to lighten my mood. Luckily I had a very good time at the bar.
Tasty local beer.
Saturday started on a very different note. The sun was out and I had an accident free morning. As it was the 8th of march I went to a lecture and mingling event in Sølvberget, the house where the library is, with my mother, aunt and cousin. The people speaking had many interesting things to say and I really liked the event. Afterwards we went to the cafe in the same building to get some wine. In the evening I went out with a friend to try a relatively new burger place in Stavanger called Døgnvill (the name can be roughly translate to Jet-lagged). The burgers tasted really great and the milkshake was simply amazing! After this we headed to Martinique for a few beers.
Today has been quite lazy. But I got to see the new apartment some friends of mine just bought, went for a walk, watched some winter sports on TV and probably most importantly I slept in and got some much-needed sleep after a week of not sleeping to well. So despite a very bad start to the weekend it turned out to be a good one 🙂 Hopefully I’ll find my cards in my bag at work tomorrow and all will be well.
Last sunday was the Norwegian fastelavn. For all of you who don’t know what this is you can read more here. Basically what it has turned in to, at least for me, is a day to make and eat buns. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that many photos of buns on Facebook or Instagram as this sunday. I did not post any pictures her, but I made some. And I’ll post the photos here instead.
My version of Fastelavn buns. They might not look like a work of art, but they tasted great.
As my family and I are intolerant to milk, in anything but small amounts, it did not seem like a good idea to make the traditional buns with tons of whipped cream and jam. Sure there are good non-milk alternatives, but I like my vanilla cream and jam ones better. And as they don’t have so much cream as the traditional fastelavn-buns you can have more than one. And as my mother can’t eat too much flour I decided to make them with 50% oatmeal flour so that she could taste one too. They where actually very good.
Now it’s soon weekend again. Hope you’ll all have a great one and I’ll round-up this post with saying cheers to you all with a photo from last saturday:
View from the roof of my building 🙂
Today, 1st of March, was the first day of spring 🙂 And if the first day of spring is any indication for the weather the rest of spring I’m very satisfied. It truly was a great sunny day. I’ve spent most of it outside just enjoying the sun, soaking up the light and vitamin D’s it brings with it. Extremely good end of the winter break, great start of spring and hopefully it will last at least untill tomorrow.
On a completely different note, something very strange happened the other day. I looked out the window and there was a group of people outside staring at my building while a woman was talking, presumably about local history. If this continues I’ll probably have my blinds down a lot more. I know they were not there to look at me, but I felt like I was on display.
Group of tourists outside my building. Bad picture taken with my Ipad.
Now I’ll relax for a bit before I get ready for dinner and wine at one of my friends’ house. Tomorrow I’ll hopefully get to enjoy the sun again and I’ll have to make some buns for the Norwegian “fastelaven” to take to sunday dinner at my parents house.
