A concert and films

This weekend it was time to go to a concert that I had been looking forward too for some time. I left work a little early on Friday to shop, clean and make some food for the guest that we had invited to come to us for food and a pre-party before the concert. The pre-party was a great success and we went up to the concert in a good mood. The girl who warmed up for the artist called herself Some Feather and was a very good singer songwriter. Hanne Vasshus, the main act was really amazing, and I’m not just saying that because I know her, her voice is lovely and she has a real presence on stage. The musicians she had with her are very good and I especially enjoyed the string quartet that joined on a few songs. After the concert we went out to dance.

Yesterday was a lazy day, I went out for a little walk, but the rain and wind was quite bad, so the walk was cut quite short. So most of the day the TV showed me winter sports, something I thing is a perfect thing to watch after a night out. I don’t know why but I’ve always enjoyed watching winter sports on TV and it’s especially good after good night out.

Evening time was time for looking at some films on Netflix and it was my better half that was doing the choosing. First out was The Big Short, a story about a few investors who bet against the mortgage market and in their research they discovered just how flawed and corrupt that marked was. It is a film I had heard about when it came out in 2015 and I wanted to see the movie, but as with a lot of films, I never got around to it. I enjoyed the movie and can recommend it to anyone who is as slow as me in actually getting to see the films I want.

After this we decided to get a bit silly and went for  a movie called Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. And yes, it is as silly as it sounds, but for some reason it is a bit enjoyable. On IMDB the storyline is said to be:

The five highly trained Bennett sisters in Georgian England must try to protect themselves from the growing zombie threat, find suitable husbands for themselves, battle marriage proposals and unlikely suitors, and save the country before it’s too late.

All in all the weekend, so far, has been quite good. Today I will need to go for a walk, so I’m hoping for a little bit better weather today than yesterday. I will also have my usual Sunday dose of lovely blog posts. Sadly I will also have to spend some of my day working, due to having been busy over the week and a deadline coming up tomorrow.

How have you been spending the  weekend? Did anything good?

My weekend

Last week I wasn’t feeling too well and had to stay in bed for a couple of days with a fever. So this weekend I did not have much planned a part from relaxing and sleeping. But then came Friday and a friend of mine was going in to town and asked if we could meet up for a curry and a beer. She had a ferry to reach at ten o’clock so I thought I might as well be a little social this weekend even if I was not up for a big party. We had a nice evening but by the time I came home I was very tired and went straight to bed.

On Saturday I actually managed to sleep in a bit and I did some much needed tidying up in the apartment and ran some errands. In the evening another friend asked if I wanted to come to the movies with her and after the film we went out for a couple of drinks at a friends cocktail bar. The movie was good and the company and drinks was excellent. But once again I managed to be sensible and get home quite early so I didn’t ruin the next day.

Sunday was very Sunday-like. I stayed in read some blog posts, participated in #Sundayblogshare. I continued cleaning my apartment and have finally begun some much needed de-cluttering work. Today, Monday I woke up at 03.30, so I imagine this day will end earlier than planned, but I hope I will be a good girl and continue the work I started over the weekend this week.

Hope you all had a weekend as good as mine.

Lazy Week (and Weekend)

Trees by the lake

Trees by the lake

This week I haven’t really been up to much and it has been very nice! I’ve been doing the things I had to do, like going to work minding a few peoples plants and bringing in their mail while they were on holiday, but apart from that my days have consisted of going for walks in between the rain showers, and just being at home watching tv and hanging around the internett.

After reading several posts on how to use pintrest in your blogging I decided to start taking some interest in it. I already had an account after being convinced by the lovely Teagan Genevienne and seeing the way she used it with her blogging. I soon discovered  I didn’t understand much of it and I nearly forgot about it. This week I decided to give it a new go and I have slowly but surely understood more and more of it. I found out that the way to go for me is to approach this little by little at snail speed. So far Pintrest have sent one person to my blog, i’m not a 100% sure but I think that was me accidentally clicking on my phone. As you understand I am nowhere near being an expert and I probably never will be and that is absolutely fine by me. If you are curious about pintrest visit Suzie Speaks, Elena or Janice, they know a lot more that me about it!

This weekend I’m going to continue having no plans. I had a lovely quiet friday evening with watching TV, eating nice food, crisps and enjoying some wine with my man. I am making sure that my batteries are properly loaded for next week that starts with me going for job interviews on Monday and Tuesday.

Hope you’re all having a fabulous weekend doing whatever makes you happy!

P.S. If you find yourself wondering what to do with the weekend there is a PARTY going on at Janice’s new blog! Check it out.

Another weekend is over

My weekend turned out exactly the way it was supposed to. I did bits and pieces around the house, as planned, and I went for a few nice walks. As promised the weather got colder and clearer. And the sky went from grey to blue and pink. I really do prefere this weather to the rain, hail and wind from the last weeks, even if it it a bit slppery with the ice on the ground. I now I might jinx myself here, but I have managed to keep both feet on the ground so far (touch wood).

On Saturday evening I stayed in, enjoyed a glass of wine and watched Spellemansprisen, Norway’s annual music award show. The show was held here in Stavanger, but I did not go to see it or go celebrity spotting around town, I simply watched it on TV as I used to when I was a kid.

To wrap up the weekend I went to my parents house on Sunday to enjoy a traditional Norwegian sunday dinner with the family. All in all it was a very good weekend combining relaxation with getting things that needed to be done out of the way. Hope all of you had really great weekends and bring some positive energy into th week ahead.

Last weekend before Chrstmas

This weekend has been a great pre-Christmas weekend. Was really tired on friday so I fell asleep early and woke well rested on saturday. I started the day by tidying and cleaning my apartment before a good friend, her husband and little daughter came to visit. As she lived in Bergen it was a long time since last saw them and we had a nice time eating the things I baked for Christmas and catching up on everything.

Afterwards I went to my parents place for dinner and I spent the evening there watching a Christmas concert on TV and one of the films I always watch before Christmas, Love Actually. I was a bit shocked when i remembered that this film i now 10 years old. But it’s still one of  the newest of the films I see every year. Love_Actually_movie

Today I’ve been helping my father buying some presents and some more gift wrapping paper and coffee for me.  As it was raining a lot today I feared the paper bags they have a the Nespresso shop would be damaged before I got home. From an environmental point of view the paper bags are much better than the plastic ones, but when you live in a city where it’s often raining it’s not always the best option if you want to be able to bring what you bought home. But a Nespresso they gave me a rain cover for my bag 🙂

The rest of the weekend will be used to watch more films and wrap the last gifts for Christmas, listening to Christmas music and other nice stuff.

The Hunger Games Conundrum

Came across this great post about a book series I enjoyed a lot. Have not seen the second film yet, but looking forward to see it soon.

The Book Wars

George Orwell and Aldous Huxley imagined two very different dystopias. In 1984 (1949), Orwell depicts the forces that held people captive as fundamentally external: coercion, espionage, laws, institutions, and threats, lies told by the powers-that-be (or, the state? government?). The vision of freedom that Orwell presents is primarily socio-political, with the greatest threat to humans being other humans, whether the Nazi, the slave-owner, or the autocrat etc… Oppression comes through pain, not pleasure; the essence of liberty is to be without external constraint. By contrast, Huxley’s Brave New World (1934), published just after the Wall Street crash had turned the excess of the twenties into the Great Depression of the thirties, portrays a future in which people are enslaved to forces within themselves: desire, inanity, hedonism, egotism, ignorance. Humans are free if they are able to choose, to will their own future, to decide for themselves what they will…

Silver Linings Playbook

Although none of you care I’m still going to tell you what I’ve done lately. I’ll save you the trouble of reading about my dinners,  how I got to work and how I’m cleaning in my apartment. Because quite frankly I’ll save that for sometime I’ve actually feel I’ve earned  the right to brag about the cleaning or my cooking or when/if i actually have a need to say anything about the public transportation system in my local area. The latter has, to be fair, gotten much better lately. But that’s for another time 😉

No,  today I’m going to tell you about a movie I just saw Silver Linings Playbook. I know it came out quite a while ago and most people probably have seen it before. But if you’re not interested in reading what I want to say about it, you know what to do (for the ones that are a little slow, what you need to do is stop reading). I’ve been meaning to watch this film a long time, but I’ve just never gotten around to it.

I must say that I’m very glad I did see it last night! The film was funny and sad at the same time. It is a small wonder Jennifer Lawrence got an Oscar for her part in it. The acting in this film was really good. Now I’m not going to sit her pretending to be an expert, but Silver Linings Playbook really got to me. I feel it captured the challenges and problems of the characters in a very good way. And i found it utterly refreshing to watch two people who seem to lack “filter” converse with others and between themselves.  It made me laugh, get sad and frustrated and happy all in turn. I can really recommend it to anyone.
