Danmark 2025 – The boat

View from the cabin at departure

On our last week of summer vacation we decided to go to our neigbouring country Denmark.  Some of Ickle Pickle’s cousins from Ireland was also going over and it was a good oportunity to see them and have a nice holiday at the same time.

Night time at sea

We decided to take the boat that goes from about 15 minutes from our house, and is an over night ferry, instead of driving a while and take a faster ferry. Both on the way there and on the way back the ferry leaves in the evening and arrives in the morning.

Beer and nachos

We had a cabin to sleep in with a window, so that we got to have a look at the sun going down and back up again the next day. I went to grab a little beer and some nachos when Ickle Pickle was going to sleep on the way down.

Good morning sunrise

On the way back she had slep 3 hours in the car so she was up for grabing a drink at the bar (the selecion for kids was really good), and doing a lot of dancing when the band was playing. The kid were allowed there the first part of the trip an there were som activities for them there as well.

My daiquiry and Pickles childrens cocktail

I also visited the duty free shop on the ferry, to get a few things for my mother and a couple of bottles of wine and I also got myself a good deodorant.

To and from the ferry to the place in Denmark we were staying the drive was about 3 hours, but we are lucky to have a child that sleeps easily in the car. On the way down we made sure to have an early breakfast so she could sleep without getting hungry an that worked really well.

So much fun to put your head here

We where quite lucky with the weather on both trips and did not have too much wind, so when we were sleeping we just had the gentle rocking of the waves.

  1. I am glad to see you had a fantastic trip. While I’ve been on many ferry rides, I have yet to experience an overnight ferry. It looks like a fun experience, especially as the ability to book a private cabin provides essential comfort and a proper night’s sleep, making the journey a seamless transition to your destination without losing a travel day to sleep.  Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx
