Vilnius part 2: Food

Black vanilla ice cream was all the rage so I tried a scoop. It was quite tasty.

In Vilnius I had a lot of very tasty food. Some of ut I tried just because it looked great, but I also wanted to try some propper Lithuanian food. It has a lot in common with it’s Baltic contries, Polish, German and Ukranian.

Ordenary and rhubarb lemonade
Cabbage soup served in a bowl made from rye bread
A sampler of a lot of different potato dishes. Potato pancakes, potato dumplings, Cepelinai fried and boiled and potato sausage

A lot of the Lithuanian food is quite heavy and not the tings you usually would choose on a hot summers day. Especially the potato dishes is quite filling, when served with sour cream and bacon. Potatos and pork is a lot of their cuisine.

I also tried some borcht the nice beetroot soup. And quite a lot of the Lithuanian beer, that did the trick in the heat.

One evening I got a really nice guinnea fowl, but the stuff at the resturant was very snobby.

At the wedding I opted for the duck

  1. I am still not getting notifications of blogs I follow so I have no idea how far behind I am here. It looks like I would gain 5 pounds from eating all that beautiful food. Stick to your ribs kind of food. Not sure about the black vanilla but if you say it’s tasty, I believe you.

      1. I never would have imagined such dishes existed, so I find it so interesting to be able to see and read about foods from other cultures. I love your blog and what you share 🙂
