After having driven over Hardangervidda and visited Vøringsfossen, we hit the fjord and the area called Hardanger. The area here is beautiful, very Norwegian with the fjords and mountains. Just like a lot of the fjord areas building roads has not been the easiest, so the national tourist roads here is a tourist attraction in itself. It is not very nice when you meet a lorry or bus on the very narrow roads, but luckily we were not in a rush.

The region is one of Norway’s most important sources of fruit and constitutes around 40% of the national fruit production, including apples, plums, cherries and pears. They have been growing apples here since the 14th century. The sight of the fruit trees growing down the slopes toward the fjord is really something special. If you go between the blossoming and the fruits getting ripe it is really nice and it looks like a different place.

When we were there we got the back end of the cherries and some amazing plums. We also got to by some apple juice directly from the farmer in a little both by the side of the road. Sadly I was busy focusing on getting us safely to our destination and I don’t have many photos of the wonderful fruit gardens. But I can recommend them highly.

Hardanger is a wonderful area to visit and we did enjoy the drive, but I must say that I felt more relaxed last year when I was a passenger when I passed the area.
