October is here

We have now entered a new month, and autumn has absolutely made its arrival known. Autunm is not my favorite season as it is starting to get cold around now, but I can’t argue that it comes with lovely colors and on those days where it is dry sunny and crisp it can be really beautiful. If we are lucky with the waether October can be one of nature’s most beautiful months. But then again, where I live it often rains. And then the wet leef on the ground is just a slip hazard.

Not the worst view on a walk

After going back to the office, I have been a lot more stationary, because I’m not out walking as much when I’m spending so much time at the desk. But this is not so good for my health. So, this October I decided to join in an initiative at work to be a little more active. Having an initiative like this makes it a little easier for the likes of me to get of the couch when Ickle Pickle has gone to bed in the evening.

I have no desire to be super fit or anything like that, but I would like to keep up my form to stay as healthy as possible and I would not like to sink to the level were playing with my child is something I struggle to do. I am far from that, but I need to take some small measures before it is too late. So, in addition to cycle to and from work I am going to get out for a walk in the evening when I can.

Lovely autumn sunset

Tuesday night I got out just as the sun went down and the weather was a lovely crisp autumnal evening. The walk was only half an hour, because I needed to run some errands afterwards and had to get there before the shop closed. But 30 minutes outside in the lovely nature moving is a lot better for me that 30 minutes extra on the couch staring at some form of screen. It can be a bit hard to actually go out on an evening when you are tired from work and the lack of sleeps that comes from having small children. But there is no doubt that it really does you a world of good.

And I did manage to get out yesterday as well. So, I feel like I have a good start, but there is a lot more work to go towards the end of the month.

What are your hopes and goals for the new month?

  1. Staying active is so important. My wife and I do Pilates in a class once a week. It really changed our lives and made us supple. Recently we took up Pickleball and joined a club. It’s been a revelation to be moving swiftly again. I used to play badminton and it’s a joy to be wielding a ‘racket’ again! Steve

    1. Sounds really good Steve. I will also work on doing a little bit of pilates and streching to help with the aches and pains. I have never tried pickleball, but have tried and liked paddle tennis.

  2. Getting out and moving is good for the brain and the body. Autumn is the best time for evening or any walks. Happy Thursday. We have been busy catching up after our recent trip and getting ready for our next, but walks, bike rides and 90 minutes of exercises every 2 days keep us going. Allan

  3. We are just beginning to see a glimmer of cool and the air quality is still really awful in the mornings when I walk. So I have to do it indoors but at least have added Qi Gong to my routine to help keep me flexible and more toned. We do what we can, when we can. I live where it can get incredibly hot so I look forward to the cool. Our winters are much more gentle than yours but the heat here is relentless. Just enjoy each moment.

      1. Next week will be the start of better. It’s never been this hot here. Funny how each person has a favorite season for different reasons. Hug to Ickle Pickle. I’ll bet she’s a very cute love bug.

  4. October is not as beautiful here in Texas. Most trees stay green and some turn yellow/brown. However, the temperature is usually comfortable. A bit hot in the afternoon, 35 Celsius/95 Fahrenheit, but cooler in the mornings. I like Halloween so October for me is Halloween month.

      1. Yes, the first time I heard of Halloween was when I came to the United States as an exchange student. Then later on I tried the various haunted houses and halloween parks and went trick or treating with the kids and I thought it was really fun. Right south of Dallas where I live, in Waxahachie, is the world’s largest Halloween Park. It is called Screams. I think we’ll visit this October.

      2. Well, I have medicine for my blood pressure. But seriously, there are some significant scares in some of the haunted houses and in the haunted cemetery. However, you can always avoid the really scary stuff and just do the less intense stuff, like the labyrinth, the horror museum, eat at the restaurants, have a beer at one of the pubs, play games, and watch the dressed up people. You can easily find it by just googling “screams”.

  5. I love hearing about your goal to walk more! You have such a beautiful environment to enjoy, and autumn is the perfect time for it. The crisp, cool air always fills me with a sense of transformation, shedding old burdens and embracing new beginnings.

Just make sure to stay safe out there. Enjoy the beauty around you, let it rejuvenate you, and take in each step with gratitude. Here’s to embracing the season and all the wonderful changes it brings!
