#TTT Easter in Ireland 2022: Powerscourt

Powerscourt house from Triton lake

This is my first post in a series I have chosen to call Throwback Travel Thursday or TTT, not to be confused with the other TTT (Things Take Time). In my first post I would like to take you back to Ireland easter 2022 and the first part of a lovely outing to Powerscourt. For those that has been here a while you will know that I travel to Ireland a few times every year to visit friends and family. But we try to do something a little different every time we are there, mostly for our own sake, but as a bonus you get to come with me.

I had wanted to visit Powerscourt for quite some time, and we finally made the time to go and the weather was on our side. Powerscourt was voted one of the top ten houses worldwide by Lonely Planet and started life as a 13th century castle over 800 years ago, before it was transformed into its current Palladian mansion by the 1st Viscount Powerscourt between 1730 and 1741.

A lovely path to the Japanese gardens

We did not do the full tour of the house on the inside, but spent a lot of time in the gardens, and they are really wonderfull. We also go some food and lovely cakes from the lovely cafè that we brought out in the lovely sunshine to be enjoyed in the lovely surroundings. The gardens was named by National Geographic as the third finest garden across the entire globe,

Japanese gardens

There are a few different gardens in the Powerscourt grounds. One of then is the Japanese Garden that was created by the 8th Viscount and Viscountess Powerscourt in 1908. This beautiful, mythical garden was created on the reclaimed bogland south of Triton Lake over 100 years ago. You can read more about it here.

More from the Japanese gardens

I will be sharing more from our visit to the gardens next week, as there was just too many lovely things to put in one post.

Hope you have enjoyed this little Travel Throwback
