The Powerscourt Gardens that I brought you to in my post last week, held too much for just one post so I will bring you back again this week in my Thursday Travel Throwback. For those of us that is now fast approaching winter and colder weather it is also a good opportunity to go back to springtime and sunshine.

Powerscourt also have a very lovely walled garden with lovely flowers and a wonderful atmosphere. I really enjoyed walking around in the beautiful surroundings taking everything in and together with feeling the lovely warm sunshine on my face it was really an energy boost to walk around enjoying with plenty of time to do so.

The Walled Gardens are one of the oldest parts of Powerscourt’s Gardens and as I said there are many fascinating plants. They where once known as ‘The Kitchen Garden’ as vegetables and fruit used to be grown here so that the family living in the house would be well stocked. There are still some tasty apples left of the old kitchen garden.

One of the other things to see in Powerscourt gardens is the Pepperpot tower. It is located tin a part of the gardens called Tower Valley surrounded by stunning variety of trees. Including Sitka Spruce, Western Red Cedar, European Silver Fir, Dawn Redwood, Torrey Pine and the Giant Sequoia.

The Pepperpot Tower was modelled on a pepper pot from Lord Powerscourt’s dining table. And scenes from the TV series The Tudors was filmed there. We climbed up the steps inside the tower to get a good view of the gardens from up there.

A part of the Gardens that I did not take any photos in, but that I can recommend visiting is the Pet Cemetery which is the resting place of the much- loved pets of the Wingfield and Slazenger families. The cemetery is believed to be the largest pets’ cemetery in any private Irish garden.

Hope you enjoyed the continued walk around the beautiful gardens. And that you are all keeping well.

Thank you, I did! I am often quite lucky with the weather when I am over there. Saying that, it might jinx my up comming visit later this year
Do what we did. Take a photo of a clear blue sky and take it with you when you travel. That way you will always have blue skies. 🙂
