Art museum

The day after our trip in to town, we had a day that was a little bit more slow. We went for a little walk to the art museum close by us.

On a Sunday their cafe has lovely waffles, that is a treat for the whole family, and it is located by the lake where we often go for a sleep time walk.

This day we went in to the main room and had a look at some of the art on display.

One of their exebitions at the moment are of the art of two of the greatest female artist from this region, Kitty Kielland and Frida Hansen.

Wikipedia says about the two:

Frida Hansen (8 March 1855 – 12 March 1931) was a Norwegian textile artist in the Art Nouveau style. She was born in Hillevåg, a part of town in Stavanger. She has been described as a bridge between Norwegian and European tapestry, and several of her weaving designs are considered among the best made in recent European textile art. Her works are owned by a number of museums, including the National Museum – Museum of Applied Art in Oslo, Drammen Museum, Stavanger Art Museum and the Nordic Museum in Stockholm.

Kitty Lange Kielland (8 October 1843 – 1 October 1914) was a Norwegian landscape painter. Kielland was born to an affluent family in Stavanger, the older sister of Alexander Kielland, one of Norway’s most renown writers. Kielland’s interactions with her brother were important in her development as an artist. Although she received some training in drawing and painting, it was not until she turned thirty that she was allowed to train as a professional artist.

We wandered around the museum till nap time and enjoyed ourselves. Before we went home to pack some bag for our next trip.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend.
