Very, very early this morning my plane landed on my hometown airport and marked the end of my lovely vacation to the wonderful island of Crete.
Crete is a very green island that has a lot of beautiful flowers. And they grow all over the place including on a lot of the buildings. I find them lovely and they make it look colourful and amazing.
There are also a lot of fruits and vegetables growing on the island. It might be most famous for it’s wonderful olives, but it also has amount of lovely citrus fruits. But as oranges got so plentiful some farmers want back to growing what used to be called the butter of the poor that is now a fruit that gives a better income, the avocado. But eating a fresh orange or enjoying freshly pressed orange juice with fruit directly from the trees, is amazing.
There is also a lot of pommegranade prickly pears and not to forget the grapes grown to make nice wine. We got to sample some of the grapes and have gotten some oranges straight from the trees and they are lovely, for eating as well as drinking.
Hope all of you have been doing well while I have been away and that your weekend is enjoyable.
I am lucky enough to live in an area where orange, lemon and grapefruit trees are plentiful…nothing more fun than waking up and grabbing breakfast from your tree outside!
Beautiful photos by the way, thanks for sharing!
Sounds lovely John, where I live it is way to cold to grow those kinds of fruit. I do love freshly pressed orange juice!
