November 2020 we were supposed to go for a weekend break to Kristiansand, a town about a 3 hour drive from where we live. But as there was a spike in Covid cases our trip was canceled. So we went for a day trip, not to far away, instead. I have previously shared from the start of our day trip in my post from Egersund.

On our way home we stopped for dinner and a lovely walk in the small town of Bryne about 30 minutes away from where we live. Bryne is located on the southern shores of the lake Frøylandsvannet. The 5.43-square-kilometre (1,340-acre) city has a population (2019) of 12,202.

We walked through the park by the river called the Fritz Risøe sculpture park. The Fritz Røed Park was officially opened 1 October 2004. It is a collection of sculptures made by the sculptor Fritz Røed, who was born in Bryne.

The walk lead us down to the old mill, that, in non covid times is mostly used for concerts and art exhibitions. I have played there myself with my band. The original mill burnt down in 1928. Today’s building is dated from 1929.

A band that was very famous in Norway, called the Kaizer’s Orchestra, had their most pominent band members from Bryne. And a few years ago when they where making a nice spot to hang out in the center of town they named it after the band. So outside Byne Mølle there now is a place called Kaizer’s Orchestra Place.

We were quite hungry after a long day driving and walking. So we decided to have dinner at Møllehagen resturant. I had the arctic char and I was very happy with it. For dessert I had a very lovely cheesecake.

After the meal we waddled back to the car and drove home. Very happy with our adventure and quite tired after a long day.

Bryne looks like a great little place to get away to for a day trip. We all need to have our escapes during this pandemic. Hope all is well. Allan
