Weekending

This weekend started with me going to work in the morning without my phone and all credit and debit cards. Luckily, I had remembered my access card so I got into the building. Spending a full workday without my phone made me feel really lost and even if I had loads of people that offered to get me lunch, I still did not feel comfortable. It also made me very uncomfortable finding out just how dependent I am on my phone even at a time when I normally don’t use it too much. I was intending on getting some food for the weekend on my way home, but ended up making some pasta with things I had in the fridge. The rest of the evening was relaxing (after Ickle Pickle went to bed).

Saturday was an indoors day, with the weather being bad. We had a small visit of a friend, made some nice food and played a lot. My other half was going to the cinema so I was minding the little one while she was sleeping.

Today we rose early and enjoyed a busy morning before we went up to pay grandma a visit. A good friend had made a large batch of the most delicious lamb and lentil curry and was kind enough to give us a large tub that we could enjoy for dinner. Now I am ready to read and enjoy some nice posts, a little TV and a glass of wine.

How are you spending your Sunday evening?

  1. Your Sunday sounds very nice, Maja! I remember a world without cell phones and internet. I think it was a better world back then, the pace of life was slower and people were more friendly and actually spoke with each other, not stare at a phone.

      1. Thanks! We were the last generation to grow up without the madness created by technology, we didn’t know how good we had it!

  2. Your point about a phone is well taken…we are all so dependent on them, heaven obit a lengthy power outage! As for Sunday, we went for a long long walk through a very lively and gorgeous Central Park in New York, and now off to take friends to a steakhouse that is iconic here int he city – cheers and have a relaxed res of your night!

  3. it is like a mandated break. I remember are years ago, I brought back my Nokia 3310 to life and used it for a week instead of my smart phone. I was reachable only by calls. no texts, no WhatsApp, no social media. It was nice break and less stress. Having said that, I think repeating the same exercise nowadays will be more difficult given that the IDs, Payments, directions, …etc are all on the phone. However, A day will not be a big deal.

    1. Yes, it really is like a break. I was mostly worried that I had missed any calls from my daughter’s daycare or simmilar. And I did not have any money to buy the things I was going to get. That was the most anoying

  4. I can imagine how disconcerting it is to forget your phone and money/cards at home. But you got through the day and it sounds like a lovely time followed with your Ickle Pickle (I love that). ❤

  5. Sounds like a wonderful weekend!

I know the panic over a phone. I left mine at home by accident a few months ago, and it felt like the strangest day. I could not call my girlfriend to let her know I would be home late; I could not sort out the food we were going to order when I was home till I found it; I had missed notifications for work stuff. It is weird how much we depend on the little boxes nowadays.

    Interesting post. Thanks for sharing!
