Saint Lucy’s Day

Today is Saint Lucy’s Day and after a hectic week with work and Christmas concerts I had a very quiet day. I went for a walk in the cold crisp air and sunshine. Taking caution on the icy road.

I was at a birthday party for a one year old and got served safron buns called “lussekatt” in Norwegian. And when I went to do some shopping I met a Saint  Lucy parade in the shopping centre.

  1. I like the idea that Lucia is celebrated anywhere and everywhere, even in the shopping centre. Ice? Here is it unseasonably warm with temperatures of 15 forecast later this week! It feels rather odd. Have a good week – do you have a holiday after this week?

  2. The birthday party must have been fun – with many young kids around, I guess 😉 I worked with Swedes years ago and their children performed some songs for us for Santa Lucia. It was really interesting as it was so different from our culture.

  3. Beautiful to see the little girls singing in the mall. I learned about St. Lucia from my first mother-in-law. She was Swedish. Our Lutheran church often did a celebration of St. Lucia depending on how many were from the old countries. They celebrate it by slightly different names in different countries. Good thing the pastry doesn’t need a lot of explaining. Looks too yummy. Glad you had a fun day.
