Taking the ferry to Denmark with work, we were taken by bus to the city of Aalborg. Alborg is the fourth largest city of Denmark and was founded in the Viking age and people settled there around year 600. While I have been to Denmark many times before, when I was younger, I had never visited Aalborg and had high hopes for the town as I had heard many good things of it.
When we showed up in town it was time for team building activities. I am not usually one for these activities, but this one was quite good. We were divided in to teams and given a tablet and we had to walk around town with a map and answer questions and take photos. It was something that every one could take part in even if they are not to sporty and it was a low level bonding with your colleagues.
The team building activities lasted about two hours and we did meet all the other teams as we walked along, solving our tasks and getting to know each other a bit better. Some were a bit more competitive than others, luckily my team was not one of those.
Afterwards we had time to ourselves and I decided to go for a look around the rest of the town, the one that we did not get to see on our walk around with the tablet. And I really liked what I saw, I found Aalborg a very cute town. Architecturally, the city is known for its half-timbered mansions built by its prosperous merchants.
I also took the opportunity to check out some nice shops. There were a few cute local Danish shops that we do not have at home. I got a few small items, but a lot of my colleagues did a lot more shopping than I did. Some of them sure had a lot to carry.
I also made sure to have a few breaks, chatting with the people I met and joined along the way and resting my feet, so I would not get too tired. The European Union apparently concluded a little while ago that the people of Aalborg are the most satisfied in Europe with their city and I would say that I can understand them.

Thank you. A lot of the streets here in my home town of Stavanger is still cobbled as well. It’s very charming, but not the most practical if you’re wearing high heels!

Charming…I’ve only been to Denmark once and only saw Copenhagen, which was incredible in many ways, but lacking this charm…

It was in the middle of the day and most of the people were probably at work, but it was generally quite quiet up until working hours was over. There was people, but I did not want them in my shots 😉

I’m with you on team building exercises. They can be awkward but I guess there is no way out and you get to visit new places as a prize. 😉 I love the city and had to look up where it was located exactly. My parents took a trip to Denmark but left all of us kids home. I think they were camping along the way from Germany. I love that old architecture. Now I’ll go read part 2. 😉
I thought it a lovely city too and it is a place I would like to go back to. It is quite easy to get to Danmark from Norway (maybe not as easy as from Germany) so I should go back either to Aalborg or one of the other towns close by. I have only ever been to Germany once (if you don’t count driving over the boarder as a child to go shopping), I spent 10 days in Berlin and would like to go back. So many places to visit and just not enough time or money….
I have the time now, just looking for the money! 🙂 Ha ha. Lots of places I want to see too.

Looking at your photos of Aalborg, I feel like an idiot for making Copenhagen as my base when in Denmark. Aalborg seems to be so quaint, beautiful and crowd free.. 😀 Copenhagen was good, but Aalborg is way way better.. 😀
