Snow storm

Yesterday we had our first day of snow chaos. The snow we had this weekend had gotten a little wet and in addition it started snowing again, but this time it was a little warmer so that the snow that came down was heavy and slushy. To add to this there was a good bit of wind. This meant that it was a little bit of chaos around here where I live. Some roads had to be closed, there were a lot of disturbances in the airline traffic. And at some point, the buses could not run anymore.

I was so happy that I did not have to take a bus or the car yesterday. Yes, it was a little bit arduous walking in the snow and wind, and I looked very much like a snowman by the time I got home, but at least I did not have to wait for ages in traffic and hope to get home. The authorities told people to consider if it was really necessary to get in the car in the afternoon (of course you need to get home from work, but you might not need to go out to do anything afterwards). This meant that my band practice was canceled. And given the circumstances, that was fine by me. I was not looking forward to driving and queueing for ages on slippery roads.

Luckily it is forecasted to be quite a lot warmer next week. While snow might be fun for the young ones, I am not too fond of it here in town. I don’t mind if we were to go up to the mountain to ski, but at home, I prefer bare roads. And not having to shovel snow away from the stairs and front yard. And having to maneuver a pram in heavy snow is not something I recommend.

I spent the afternoon indoors, not doing much. I did my shopping on the way home, so I would not have to go back out. My other half made it back from his travels before the storm hit, so we got to catch up a little bit and had a good chat and some warm tea.

It is still snowy outside today, but there is no wind, and it is not snowing any, so it was a lot easier getting into the office this morning. But it took a little extra time because I had to walk instead of taking the cycle. Hopefully we don’t have to have too many more days like that this year.

How has the new year started for you? Mine has felt quite good even if the weather has not been my best friend.

  1. By our own standards the UK’s had quite a lot of snow over the last few days, but nothing to match what you have to cope with. We don’t get much practice, so we’re not too good at coping with snow…but we’re experts at panicking about it!

    1. I think you get about as much snow as we do here in the south west. But as the rest of the country has a lot more snow than us we are a little more prepared. Even if the ones up north and in the east are not impressed by our snow troubles.

  2. Here in New York, we were fortunate that a recent snow storm missed us. Just frigid cold for the next week🥶.
The snow is so pretty through the windows but not fun traveling in it. Stay safe and warm during your snowfall!🙏🏻

  3. Looks like a lot of snow, just like on the East coast of North America. Where we are, it has been cold, but will be above freezing this week. Only a bit of fluffy snow has fallen here in the last few weeks. Happy Tuesday. Allan

      1. You are welcome, and that’s great! Its in the upper 50s in the F scale here today and very windy, another windstorm is upon us!

  4. Los Angeles never has snow, but we have a massive “wind event” that could knock out power…it’s the northeast US that is under snow and freezing cold for the next week…lots of disruptions so being home with warm tea sounds like a smart plan!

    1. I like snow, but I prefer it to stay up in the mouintains and not to be in town, as it usually comes with having to showel, dig out your car, finding ice under it and getting cold and wet. It is nice for the kids to get a day or two out in the snow and it does make things look like a christmas card!

  5. For someone who lives in Tangier, I really can’t imagine living in that kind of weather 🥶
It does snow in Morocco, in the Atlas Mountains more precisely, but not in the rest of the country.
As a tour guide, I have conducted tours just last couple of weeks for visitors from England, and they were REALLY happy with the weather over here.

  6. Here in the UK, we have snow chaos on our roads when half a snowflake has fallen down. We went to the Scottish Highlands this year and drove easily on roads that had been closed. With our Scandinavian background, we don’t find places with a real winter in the UK.
We really miss the snow and frost. Therefore, we go North every winter, often to the North of Norway or Sweden.
    All the best

    🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

    1. Sound a little bit like an extreme version of how it is here where I live. The roads don’t close, but there can be delays in air traffic. But it is not as snowy as the east and north of Norway.
