Easter in Ireland 2025: Bushy park

Lovely little waterfall in the park

Today is a very wet day here in Norway and we have spent the morning buying some plants at a local plant sale and dropping by a friends house for a cup of coffee and to say hi to the family. It is a good day for taking you back to Easter Monday when we woke up in the hotel we spent the night at in Dublin and made our way over to family members.

Duck pond

After we had met them all and enjoyed some of the nice cake, I have shared a picture of here before. We all went for a walk in a park close to where they live, called Bushy Park. Bushy Park is in Terenure on the Southside of Dublin city. The park has scenic walks along the River Dodder, GAA pitches, tennis courts, padel and boules courts, a duck pond, a playground and a skatepark.

Nice walk along the river

Bushy Park dates back to 1700 when Arthur Bushe, built the house known as “Bushes House” on a site of four hectares. The property was bought by John Hobson in 1772. He changed the name to Bushy Park. In 1791, the park was purchased by Abraham Wilkinson who added almost 40 hectares to the estate. He gave it as a dowry to his daughter Maria when she married Robert Shaw in 1796.  The Shaws remained connected with Bushy Park until 1951, when they sold the estate to Dublin Corporation.

We first did a walk around the park before we stopped off at the playground and played a good bit before it started to rain. We decided that it was time to be heading back to our family’s house. And we stayed there until it was time to check in to the hotel we were staying at for the rest our trip. Chatting and playing and in general just enjoying eachother’s company.

Crossing the river

We were supposed to meet up with them the next day as well, but there was a bit of illness and plans had to change. But we have made plans to see them this summer.

  1. Nice trip summary! I visited Ireland two summers ago before heading to Oslo and Stavanger to visit family. Agree Ireland is beautiful, so green, and the people are so much fun and welcoming. 😎

  2. What a cute river.🤩 I love the ambiance of the park seeing the photos. The trees look amazing. It surely a refreshing walk there, Masgautsen.
