The first day of the year, after a good long sleep in and some blog updates, I looked out the window and saw that the weather was quite good.

It was just around 0 degrees and even if it was a bit foggy there was no wind. We had to take advantage and got in to the car to go for a good long walk. We drove for 7 minutes to the largest lake in Stavanger called Stora Stokkavann.

From 1931 until 1959, this lake was the reservoir for the city’s drinking water. Since 2009, the lake has been the crisis back-up water supply. The walk around is just around 8 kilometres and in this weather it was a very lovely walk.

The walk was very lovely and we were far from the only people walking, but luckily it was not crowded. These days that is very important to me to try to avoid the most crowded places and to spend time outdoors when we are not supposed to meet to many people. But I am very happy that we have many places we can go for walks outside and not have to stay only inside our apartment.

After the walk I relaxed for a while in front of the TV before we had some food. The temperatures kept dropping and it got quite cold, so the rest of the evening was spent on the couch under a blanket, watching some more TV.

How did you spend the first day of the year?
Did very little except for a short walk from home. Happy New Year!
Sounds like a good way to start the year. Happy New Year to you too
That does sound like a great start to the new year! I went to visit my grandparents graves, then came home, relaxed, read for a while, and finished off the evening with a glass of wine! xo
Thank you, that also sounds like a good start!
Lovely photos, Maja. You live in a beautiful part of the world. Happy 2021.
Thank you, I am quite happy with where I live, maybe more so now that we can’t travel. Hope 2021 will treat you well
Three Masses then couch potato. A strong start and a lazy ending!
That sounds like a busy, but nice start to the year.
Beautyfull 🙂
Thank you!
Lovely!
Thank you!
WOW!
Thank you!
💕
Took a short walk around the neighborhood to shake off that “cabin fever”, checked my blog and others, then watched a dvd about a couple men going slowly crazy in a remote lighthouse called “The Lighthouse”.I feel their pain.
Hopefully things will be better later this year
Didn’t do much, but that was totally okay. I made beef stew on New Year’s Eve – kind of a strange meal to make for a holiday, but it turned out to be a good batch! It was rainy out on New Year’s Dad so I didn’t take a walk, but I made up for it today and took a nice long one. Best wishes to you 🙂 Your pictures are lovely!
Thank you. Sounds like a lovely quiet start to the year. Beef stew sounds wonderful for any occation!
Looks lovely there. May 2021 be good for you and everyone.
My first day of the New Year was with my support bubble. I had the day with them.
I need to walk out like I usually do, but didn’t because of Covid-19. I didn’t walk out for the fear of passing huge amount of people not keeping at social distance.
It’s not helped my mental health by not walking out, amongst the other things affecting my life. So it’s important I give myself courage to do this.
Thank you Liz. It is good to have the day with your support bubble. Abd I really hope you can soon go out walking. I do see how not being able would be terrible for your mental health. Good thoughts are sent your way
Thank you.
Dvd’s were my next go to. But I really needed the walking at times.
I understand. Hope you feel safe enough soon
So beautiful and serene, thanks for sharing those photos…we did a hike as well on New Years Day – I will be sharing some of that because it’s in one of the most beautiful and preserved areas of the US, about 30 miles from the Grand Canyon!
Thank you. That sounds like a very good start to the year.
Didn’t leave the house. Sent out a critique chapter, then did critique work for two author friends.
Sounds like a day well spent.
