June 2025

Summer is nearing middle, and I have not been as good at posting as I would have liked. So here is a little summary of some of the things I was up to in June. We landed from Crete early in the morning of the 1st so the start of the month was a bit quiet and slow, but there was a big bike race that was closing most of the roads where I live, so we went to see them cycle past us down a very steep hill next to us.  At the start of the month Ickle Pickle turned two (where does the time go?)! Sadly, she was sick on her actual day, but we had a nice quiet day at home. But we did have the family over for a celebration with pizza, ice cream and cake a few days after.

As I have mentioned before my town, Stavanger has their 900th jubilee this year. So, one of the things they are putting on this year to mark this was a big celebration for the people, they had a lot of things going on around the town. We met up with a lot of family to take part in the celebration and we got to see the Crow Princess Mette Marit as she was visiting for the occasion. It was a nice day with lovely weather, and a lot of music and activities around the town.

The weather was mostly ok, with not too much rain and a little sunshine. We had a little summer party with work. And the next day myself and Ickle Pickle went in to the center of town where there was a lot going on, one of them was the Norwegian championships of a lot of smaller sports that was put together and held at the same time, with a lot of activities for the kids. There were also bands playing and we were enjoying ice cream, music and sunshine.

We also had a weekend of great weather and there was a music festival in the woods, not too far from where I live, so me and a friend decided to go for one of the days and enjoy the lovely weather, the music, nice food and the amazing atmosphere that the festival had to offer. We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed ourselves. It felt like the perfect start to the school holidays. Even if I don’t have kids in school there is always a mood change when the school holidays start.

Skaar at Mablis festival

The weather took a turn for the worse when schools were out, but we still had a good time the rest of the month. We went to a food festival, that will get a post of it’s own, and as we are still working and won’t have our summer holidays in a while we have just enjoyed a little bit of the nice things this season has to offer.

How is your summer treating you?

  1. Summers here in the Southeast United States are extremely hot and humid with almost daily thunderstorms of lightning and rain. We muddle through with the kiddos out of school and look forward to cooler Autumn days. Happy belated birthday to little Ickle!
900 year jubilee is amazing! What rich history of beautiful people and country. Lovely cupcakes to celebrate too.

    1. Sounds very different from our summer, even if we have had very much rain lately, but it is not too humid in general and our climate is not generally very warm. I understand you looking forward to cooler days. Hope you get to enjoy the seasons as best you can.

  2. We had a brilliant spring and summer until now, with some days much too hot, and it was horribly dry. The forecast says it will stay like this.
We have a music festival in our village right now with opera, medieval music, jazz and contemporary pieces. Next week we have our famous village fete where we try to sell donated books – about 10.000. There are several regattas and a street fair.
You see, we’ll have a busy rest of the summer.
    Keep well

    1. I am very glad to hear, your summer has been good soo far. We have quite a few people visiting here for a “coolcation”. I hope the temperatures drop a little for you soon. The festival sounds great and so does the other things comming you! hope you can enjoy it all without melting away!

  3. It sounds like you had quite a lot of activity this summer. The music festival in the woods sounds so cool. Glad you enjoyed your self there. It’s great you still are making the most of summer despite the not so great weather. Our summers here in Melbourne, Australia can be quite cold sometimes. So I do enjoy the sun when it comes out. We also usually have festivals going on throughout summer. Right it’s winter here and I am hoping summer gets here soon 🙂

    1. I have had a good bit of activity and hope there will be more enjoyment to come. What are the temperatures like for you now? Hope you get to enjoy some festivals too!

      1. Fantastic you will have more activity lined up for summer 🙂 At the moment its around 14 degrees here in the day and mostly cloud. Typical winter weather. I have no festivals on the horizon but hopefully soon!

  4. How cool about Stavanger’s 900th birthday! I was in Stavanger in June 2023 and we visited family. We took a cruise to see Prekestolen, very beautiful. There was a large church in the middle of town where my aunt was Christened… I wanted to visit but it was being renovated. 🇳🇴

    1. Yes, it was being done up for the jubilee. The church was buildt 900 years ago. I always enjoy taking the boat in to Prekestolen a lot less hassle than walking too!
