On thursday I jumped on a plane to go up to Bergen to participate in the Norwegian Brass Band Championship. First off I went to meet up with a good friend of mine who lives in Bergen and her two lovely daughters. We had a great time catching up on eachothers lives. After this I met up with people from my band to have a good night out.
Friday I listend to a few bands, spent time with the people I play with and then we had rehersals, food and an early night to prepare for Saturday’s competition.
Saturday started off with a new rehersal to warm up before we entered the stage to try and show the adjudicators what we are good for. Everybody was quite pleased with our preformance and I went off to a friends child’ s 5th birthday party. She always celeberate her birthday the same weekend as the Championship so that I have a chance to come. After this it was time for eating again. This time my band went to a place called Matbørsen, to eat and drink. I had never been there before, but it was a lovely place to eat. But even if we had booked a table it took quite some time before we got to order.
When we where eating the time came for the results to be read. We listened on the live stream on our phones and as they where reading our section our tables was quite quiet. And then what we had not even dared to hope for happened, we won! So I am now a 4th section Norwegian Champion. We got a few looks from the other guests as our tables exploded in cheers.
After this it was party time. And today have been spent watching some olympics on tv and doing some walking around Bergen, even if the weather has been quite poor.
Last weekend in Bergen I had a very good time. I got to see a lot of good people and I participated in the Norwegian Brass Band Championship.
We did not manage to do our best preformance on stage, but in the end we got 5th place out of 15 in our section.
Rapunzel cake for the birthday girl
I even found the time to go to my friends daughter’s birthday party. And enjoy some time in the company of friends I don’t get to see often enough and have good cake at the same time.
A good thing to think about when you feel inadequate
I’m going in to a very busy time of year. Garantert it has been quite busy for some time, but we’re are re-organising at work. And in a little more than a week I’m going to Bergen to play at the National Brass Band Championship.
Both are things I’m looking forward to quite a lot, so I don’t mind being busy this time. But I am also looking forward to when it will all calm down a bit. At the moment I keep feeling a bit inadequate at times, when I don’t have enough time to do everything at once, even if I know that I am doing my best and nobody has complained so far. So I keep telling myself that I can only do my best and that just has to be enough.

The Day Has Arrived
And here are a few more from Bergen:
Touring in Bergen
One of the two carts
The day after our first tour around Bergen we decided to go up another of Bergen’s seven mountains, Ulriken. This is a taller mountain with it’s 643 meters above sea level.
View of the Mountains at the top
To get up we took the cable carts that are called Perle and Bruse. The weather was a little cloudy, but quite good.

When we got to the top we had lunch at the lovely restaurant that serves local food. If I wasn’t driving I would have tried one of the local beer.
Smoked salmon salad
As we sat eating the wind started acting up and there was quite the amount of fog comming in a long with rain.
Looking down on Bergen
So when we were going down the cable carts was stopped due to the wind. We had to wait for about two hours for the wind to have calmed down enough for it to be safe for us to take it down again.
Me at the top
It wasn’t the best trip down from there I’ve had. Dangling in the cart not being able to see much. But it was completely safe and we where happy to come down.

Entrance to Fløybanen
Bergen is known for being the city between 7 Mountains. On our trip we went up to the two most famous ones. One of them is Fløyen. It has a funicular railway going up to the top. It’s an easy hike, but we didn’t have too much time and it’s quite nice to take get up in a cart.
Once you get up there you have a lovely view of the town. The view point is 320 meters above sea level. We got lucky and didn’t have to wait to long in line to go up. Fløybanen is open all year from early morning to late at night and only takes 5-6 minutes to the top.

Bryggen in Bergen
I decided to spend some of my vacation on going on a road-trip to Bergen. The second largest city in Norway, where I went to university. I stayed with good friends and seeing as I had a first timer with me there we we’re being tourists.
Old houses from the Hanseatic days
Bergen is quite known for their rain and we had a bit of it, but it didn’t turn out so bad for our first full day. We had a bit or rain, but nothing too heavy. Weather was way worse today!
Old marked place
We had a great time meeting up with friends and very much enjoyed walking around in Bergen, seeing my old house and uni.
We did the tour of the town, and especialy the famous and I should have gotten more photos, but they didn’t turn out so nice.

Those of you that has read my previous posts will know that I spent last weekend in the lovely city of Bergen. I went up with my band to participate in the Norwegian National Brass Band Championship. We got on a bus up thursday evening and arrived late. Friday was spent rehearsing and the spare time I had I spent walking around town and shopping. The weather was quite shit, but it didn’t matter much. When evening came it was time to play in the contest. We where quite content with our performance and after there was a great party.
Saturday I went to listen to some of the other bands before I headed out to a good friend’s house to celeberate an Olaf themed birthday! I had a great time catching up with the wonderful people.
After this it was time to gather the band to party and get the results. For my band the results came as very bad news. But we decided to have a good time at the party and catch up with people from other bands.
Sunday it was time to get back on the bus and drive home. Very tired after a long period of rehersals, concerts that ended in a weekend of playing, partying and meeting great people!
